AUTHOR’S NOTE: This piece was prompted by Robert Frost’s “West Running Brook.” In starting to think on it and the connection between entropy and life, I came across Jeremy England’s very recent work at MIT. Readers might also be interested in E.D. Schneider and J.J. Kay’s work concerning thermodynamic evolution, and César Hidalgo’s writing on multiplier effects.
